Unemployment jumps to 8.4% on Maui Island in September 2023, primarily due to fires

On Maui Island, unemployment climbed to 8.4% in September 2023, a 3.7% increase from August 2023 and a 4.6% increase from a year ago, according to statistics released by the Hawai‘i State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.

June 2023 unemployment rate 3.1% in Maui County

On Maui, the county rate increased to 3.1% in June, compared to 2.5% in May. Maui Island’s unemployment rate was 3.0% in June, up from 2.5% in May. The outer islands of Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi also saw increased rates of 7.0% and 2.0% respectively. Molokaʻi continues to have the state’s highest unemployment, while Lānaʻi has the lowest rate.

Maui County December Unemployment Rate 7.3%

The State Dept of Labor announced today that the non-seasonally adjusted annual unemployment rate for Maui County in December was 7.3%, down from 7.4% a year ago.

Maui County November Unemployment 7.7%

The Hawaii State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations announced today that the Maui County unemployment rate was 7.7% for the month of November 2011.

Maui County Unemployment Claims Decline 5.2%

Statewide initial unemployment claims decreased by 5.9% this week and Maui County initial unemployment claims decreased 5.2% compared to the same week in 2010.

Maui County September Unemployment 7.9%

Maui County unemployment rose to 7.9% in September, a 0.4% increase from a month ago, but still lower than one year ago when it was 8.3%, according to the Hawaii State Department of Labor & Industrial Relations.

Maui County Unemployment Remains at 7.5%

The seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate for Maui County remains at 7.5% for August, down .7% from a year ago, according to the State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR).

Maui County Unemployment Falls Slightly in March

Unemployment in Maui County fell to 7.8 percent for March 2011 from 8.8 percent in March 2010, according to non-seasonally adjusted unemployment numbers announced today by the Hawaii State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR).
