Here on Maui, students will be celebrating the event from noon to 5 p.m. on the Great Lawn of the Kahului campus with educational materials, entertainment and sign-waving in support of a Smoke-Free initiative to be voted on Friday at the University’s Academic Senate meeting.

The event is one of several planned across the state this month to encourage smokers to start their new year’s resolution early and quit smoking, or make a plan to quit.

The Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Maui will host a Great American Smokeout event at the Maui Mall this weekend.
