Haleakalā Backcountry Reopens After Assault on Hiker

The backcountry area of Haleakalā National Park has re-opened for hiking, camping, and cabin use as of Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2015. The area was closed on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015 due to potential impacts associated with Hurricane Ignacio.

Haleakalā Wilderness Backcountry to Re-open on Thursday

Based on updated forecasts, park officials said they plan to reopen the area tomorrow and will be issuing cabin and camping permits starting tomorrow morning.

Haleakalā National Park will close the back country area at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015 due to the current forecast path for Tropical Storm Guillermo.
