Maui’s Hanawana Bridge Repair Complete

Repairs began on March 27 and were completed this week, enabling residents to once again drive in and out of the area with their vehicles. The Maui Department of Public Works completed emergency repairs at the Hanawana Land Bridge in East Maui after severe rains washed out a portion of the road on March 9.

Two weeks after heavy rains undermined the Hanawana Bridge in East Maui, residents cut off by the partial collapse are nervous about ongoing erosion, but thankful that repairs have been expedited and are set to start next week.

Earlier this month heavy rain, high winds and flooding were reported across the island chain resulting in damage to roads and property in the East Maui areas of Hana and Hanawana on Maui.
