Senate Majority Leader J. Kalani English will once again be reintroducing legislation to reestablish Lā Kūʻokoʻa as an official holiday. Great Britain and France became the first global powers on Nov. 28, 1843 to officially recognize the independence of the Hawaiian Kingdom by joint proclamation.

Naʻi Aupuni announced yesterday that it would not conduct a ratification vote on the proposed Native Hawaiian constitution produced during last month’s ‘aha (convention), but recommends utilizing the convention’s participants to further the vote.
