Seabury Hall presents ‘KA‘AO: A Hula Drama’

Seabury Hall presents “KA‘AO: A Hula Drama,” a production by the school’s Hawaiian Studies Department. This unique cultural event will be held for one night only on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 5:30 p.m. at Seabury Hall’s A‘ali‘ikūmākani Creative Arts Center.

KS Maui Hawaiian Ensemble students record re-imagined ‘Boarder’s Song’ about Lahaina

The song, “Yonder Lahaina Mountains,” was released on Dec. 31 and features the voices of musical artists Kaleo Phillips, Marvin Tevaga and Kapena DeLima, along with the Kamehameha Schools Maui Ensemble choir and hula dancers. Affectionately known as “The Boarder’s Song,” it was originally composed by Alice K. K. Banham. Phillips, who was among those who lost his home in the August wildfires, said the inspiration for recording the song with KS Maui came to him in a dream.

This monthʻs Hawaiian music series features Kamehameha Schools Maui Hawaiian Ensemble

The November edition of the Hawaiian Music Series will take place on Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. at Hale Ho’ike’ike at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku. This event will feature a performance by the Kamehameha Schools Maui Hawaiian Ensemble, a group of students committed to preserving Hawaiian culture through music and dance.
