3 Hawaiian Immersion students from Maui ask for help to get to D.C.
Three Hawaiian language immersion students from Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Kekaulike on Maui are calling on the community to help raise $12,000 to represent Hawai‘i at the 2025 National ʻŌlelo Hawai‘i Showcase in Washington, D.C., this June.

The Hoʻokākoʻo Corporation announces receipt of a two-year grant extension from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) Kumuwaiwai Naʻauao Educational Resources Grants program totaling $300,000, which will support Native Hawaiian elementary students at Kualapuʻu Public Charter School on Molokaʻi.

Founder describes early days of Hawaiian language immersion program, challenges
In 1986, Kīʻope Raymond was asked to join the board of the ʻAha Pūnana Leo to found the first private, nonprofit pre-school in Hawaiian language on Maui. There are now three ‘Aha Pūnana Leo schools on Maui and pathways enabling Hawaiian immersion language students to receive instruction and graduate from Lahainaluna, Hāna, and King Kekaulike high schools.
