One Year Anniversary of Historic ‘Īao Flood

Today marks the one year anniversary of the historic flood at the Wailuku River in ʻĪao Valley.

‘Īao Valley Monument Reopening Pushed to August 2017

The state has pushed back the reopening of ʻĪao Valley State monument to early August of 2017 amid ongoing repairs and interim improvements.

Rally for ʻĪao: Today Fronting County Building

A group of concerned citizens will host a Rally for ʻĪao this afternoon (Friday, Oct. 28, 2016) at 3 p.m. fronting the County Building in Wailuku.

Council to Consider $5M Amendment for Emergency Repairs at ʻĪao

Without immediate additional funding, county officials say an imminent peril to the public health, safety, or welfare exists following severe flooding at Iao.

Restoration Project Underway Following Historic ʻĪao Valley Flood

When a slow moving thunderstorm dropped an enormous amount of rain on Maui Sept. 13-14, the Wailuku River and several of its tributaries escaped their banks and not only significantly widened the river bed, but caused hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage in ʻĪao Valley State Monument.
