Holomua Marine Initiative seeks community input for Maui nearshore marine management
Maui residents are called to join the conversation and provide feedback on a revised draft proposal developed for Maui’s nearshore waters, ensuring healthy reefs and abundant resources for future generations. The DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources, Holomua Marine Initiative is hosting two upcoming information exchange sessions on the proposal: one on July 29 in Pukalani, and another on Aug. 6 in Kīhei.

The Harold K.L. Castle Foundation has appointed Dr. Amber W. Datta as its new marine program officer, tasking her with leading the foundation’s efforts to strengthen marine ecosystems and support community-based stewardship across Hawai‘i.
Hawai‘i Community Foundation awards $1.2M to protect nearshore marine areas
The Hawai‘i Community Foundation announced more than $1.2 million in grants to 18 organizations and programs providing meaningful contributions to the goal of the Holomua Marine Initiative, which focuses on protecting and restoring nearshore marine areas in Hawai‘i through community engagement and co-management. The grantees have programs in Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i Island, Moloka‘i, Maui, O‘ahu and statewide.
Maui Nearshore Management Proposal information exchanges planned in September
Maui residents are encouraged to attend one of three upcoming information exchange sessions to provide feedback on managing Maui’s nearshore waters. The community-nominated “Maui Navigation Team” has developed a management proposal in partnership wtih the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources.
