On Friday, NOAA Fisheries released the 1,000th sea turtle (honu) that was rescued and rehabilitated in Hawai‘i at Tavares Beach on Maui’s North Shore.

Coral Gardens is located near the center of the West Maui shoreline. This is an amazing snorkeling location if you want the chance to see an underwater world of vibrantly colored tropical fish, incredible coral reef formations and frequent sights of Hawaiian green sea turtles.

Lights and flash photography can indeed disturb turtles, especially nesting turtles, a turtle looking for a place to rest, or hatchlings trying to find their way to the sea. A flashlight shined on a turtle (at night) for a long period of time could undoubtedly harass an animal back into the water.
