Update: Hurricane Kiko re-intensifies to a Category 4 as it approaches the Central Pacific basin

Kiko has re-intensified to a category 5 hurricane on its approach to the Central Pacific basin. According to a NHC forecast discussion: Kiko is forecast to approach the Hawaiian Islands during the early to the middle portion of next week. “Impacts from rain and wind remain a possibility, but it is too soon to determine the exact location or magnitude of these impacts, and interests there should continue to monitor the progress of this storm.”

Category 4 Hurricane Kiko is expected to cross into the central Pacific basin Friday night and approach the Hawaiian Islands during the early to the middle portion of next week.

Maui Fire crews battled to protect structures and gain control of the Kauaʻula/Puʻunoa fire in “conditions reported to be some of the most adverse the Maui Fire Department has faced in recent history.”

Hurricane Lane is still heading for Maui County as a category 3 hurricane with 120 mile per hour winds. A Hurricane Warning, Flash Flood Watch and High Surf Warning for all south facing shores is still in effect countywide.
