Infrastructure repairs and maintenance for Maui State Forest Reserves scheduled in April
Sites in Upcountry Maui will close for the month of April to allow for trail repairs and fuel mitigation work. The DLNR Divisions of Forestry and Wildlife and State Parks will close the Kula State Forest Reserve, Waipoli Access Road, Kahikinui Forest Reserve – Papaʻanui Tract, and Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area from Tuesday, April 1, 2025 through Wednesday, April 30, 2025 to allow for work to be completed.
Settlement reached in protection of imperiled seabirds
A three-year agreement has been reached in the protection of endangered and threatened Hawaiian seabirds in Maui County. The Conservation Council for Hawai‘i and American Bird Conservancy represented by Earthjustice reports it reached the settlement with Hawaiian Electric on Oct. 30, 2024.
