The Kahikinui brush fire increased by another 300 acres yesterday after a flare-up Wednesday afternoon jumped firebreaks on the mauka perimeter.

Firefighters continue to battle a large brushfire in the remote and rugged terrain of Kahikinui, with firefighting operations now entering a fourth day. The fire has burned a total of 5,300 acres on the southern slopes of Haleakalā.
Kahikinui Brush Fire Remains Active, 40% Contained
Fire officials say the blaze is still actively burning along the northern, mauka edge, where ground crews were utilizing bulldozers to cut a firebreak.
