All Maui County Council members appeared to have won reelection, though the South Maui race was separated by just over 100 votes as of Wednesday morning, and it was unknown how many more ballots were pending. In the presidential race, voters said concerns over the economy pushed them to back Trump.

The Associated Press reported Trump cleared the necessary 270 electoral college votes to become the nation’s 47th commander-in-chief with 277 after a victory in Wisconsin. Incumbents US Sen. Mazie Hirono and US Congresswoman Jill Tokuda win re-election in the 2024 Hawai’i General Election.

Party officials say Biden’s decision to step down further displays his commitment and selflessness as a public servant to the country that he loves.

Over 400 delegates are expected to attend in person or virtually during the weekend proceedings. Interim Party Chair, Representative Adrian Tam, will oversee the meeting which is expected to include consideration and debate of topics ranging from the tragic fires on Maui, to housing affordability, access to health care, climate change, and many other issues. 

Joe Biden was sworn in today as the 46th President of the United States, alongside Vice President Kamala Harris.

Sen. Hirono joined others in filing a brief arguing that major oil companies and producers have interfered and blocked action in Congress on climate change.

Sen. Hirono called the action “arbitrary” and said many are long-term US residents from Southeast Asia, including those who fled war and genocide.
