The annual event raises awareness for cyclists and pedestrians amid a rise in traffic fatalities.

The purpose of the ride is to advocate for justice in the sentencing of Michael Cattaneo, a driver charged with first-degree negligent homicide in the death of 61-year-old cyclist Karl Hagen.

The public is invited to participate in the Ride of Silence on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 9 a.m. as part of National Bike Month.

The nonprofit Maui Bicycling League will hold a series of events in May to celebrate the 60th annual National Bike Month. MBL is a local chapter of the Hawaiʻi Bicycling League. “Bicycling is good for your health; it’s a great exercise for all ages.”
