Volunteers from Ocean Defenders Alliance have collected thousands of feet of fishing lines and pounds of lead from Hawaiʻi’s coastlines, showcasing an ongoing effort to preserve marine environments.

Hawaiian Electric continues to monitor the threat from high winds and dry conditions and may proactively shut off power in high risk areas on Hawai‘i Island and Maui as part of its Public Safety Power Shutoff program. Areas include Waikiʻi, Kawaihae, Waikoloa, Puakō, and south Kohala on Hawai‘i Island and west Maui, central Maui, and Upcountry.

Kealakekua couple, Tyron and Kacie Terazono have agreed to pay a $76,400 fine for the illegal harvest of aquarium fish, offshore of Kawaihae in Hawai‘i County on Feb. 20, 2020.

Inspection revealed aquarium fishing gear, including a small mesh net, aboard their vessel.

Intrastate cargo shipments between Honolulu and six neighbor island ports grew only 0.6 percent for the second quarter in a row.
