Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi, Upcountry shelters closing as kona storm threat lessens

Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi and Upcountry emergency shelters are closing at 7 p.m. today, March 15, 2026, with the National Weather Service forecasting diminishing effects to Maui County from a kona storm that has impacted the state since last week.

Lānaʻi shelter opened, Hāna shelter to be opened today as kona storm intensifies

In coordination with the Maui Emergency Management Agency and County of Maui Department of Human Concerns, the American Red Cross opened a shelter on Lānaʻi shortly before 1 p.m. today at Lānai High & Elementary School Gym. Another shelter is scheduled to open at 4:30 p.m. today at the Hāna High School cafeteria.

Women Helping Women’s New Lānaʻi Shelter Receives Support

The new Women Helping Women’s emergency domestic violence shelter on Lānaʻi will receive support from volunteers during a service project this weekend.
