Precautionary environmental monitoring confirmed expected pathogens in flood-carried mud, sediment, and nearshore waters impacted by the Kona Low Storms. These results also confirm that recommended precautions greatly reduce possible risk.

The Hawai‘i Department of Health is urging residents impacted by recent flooding across the state to take precautions during cleanup and recovery efforts to protect their health and safety.

A Brown Water Advisory has been issued at Kamaʻole II in South Maui. The Department recommends staying out of the water for 48-72 hours after the rain has stopped and after the beach has received full sunshine. 

The entire island of Maui is under a Brown Water advisory as a result of heavy storm water and runoff.
