Maui County’s state Senate delegation was united Monday in voting with the majority of senators to kill a bill that would have decriminalized the possession of up to 1 ounce of marijuana.

Representative Tulsi Gabbard joined House Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler of New York in introducing the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement or “MORE” Act.

The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws Political Action Committee announced its support and endorsement of Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard for her efforts to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level and her advocacy for criminal justice reform.

Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaiʻi joined Tom Garrett (VA-05) in hosting today in urging Congress to pass H.R.1227, the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act.

The bill seeks to remove penalties for private adult marijuana possession, and establish a system in which the cultivation and sale of marijuana would be regulated and taxed in a manner similar to alcohol.

Voters in Hawai’i are open to the legalization, taxation and regulation of marijuana according to the results of an opinion poll commissioned by the Drug Policy Action Group.

With states now decriminalizing and even legalizing marijuana, where does Hawaii stand? Attitudes toward marijuana and marijuana laws is the subject of a statewide poll, the results of which will be discussed during a presentation tomorrow in Honolulu.
