New bus shelters for Kīhei are currently in the design process with construction tentatively slated for next fiscal year. Construction of new shelters this fiscal year is focused on the Lahaina area.

Damage in all incidents, primarily involved kicking out or bending the metal screen walls. Based on the amount of damage sustained, violations can be considered either a petty misdemeanor or a class C felony, punishable by up to five years in jail and a $10,000 fine, county officials said.

Maui will receive $800,000 in federal funds to build new bus shelters and install solar powered lighting, bike racks, and recycle containers.
