Community coalition files amicus brief urging Hawaiʻi Supreme Court to reconsider 20-year foreclosure ruling
A coalition of community groups — joined by State Rep. Tina Nakada Grandinetti — today filed an amicus brief asking the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court to reconsider its recent decision, Bank of New York Melon v. White, that changed the statute of limitations for mortgage foreclosures from six years to 20 years. The coalition notes this is years after the underlying loan note is no longer enforceable.
Water-from-air technology brings clean drinking water to Maui Medic Healers Hui in Lahaina
Local nonprofit Eye of the Needle Holistic Living has provided a water-from-air generator to the Maui Medic Healers Hui new community venue in Lahaina. According to the nonprofit, this new generator will provide three gallons of fresh drinking water per day and prevent excess plastic bottle waste by as much as 5,670 bottles per year.
UH Wildfire Exposure Study seeks more participants during community outreach, Feb. 23-25
The grassroots, community based initiative aims to recruit at least 1,000 individuals affected by the wildfires to participate in the study. Current recruitment events take place: Feb. 23 from 3-7 p.m. at the Royal Lahaina Resort, Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center, and Feb. 25 from 10 am. to 2 p.m. at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua.
