Public invited to weigh in on proposed hike in shipping rates by Young Brothers

The State of Hawaiʻi Public Utilities Commission is holding hearings around the neighbor islands where the public can weigh in on a proposed temporary rate increase and tariff changes by the shipping company Young Brothers.

Drop in Cargo Volumes Suggests Cautious Local Businesses

A 3.9% drop in intrastate cargo shipments between Honolulu and the six neighbor island ports in the first quarter of 2013 indicates that local businesses are “still being cautious.”

Matson Reducing Fuel Surcharge

As a result of recent moderation in bunker fuel prices, Matson announced today that it is decreasing its fuel related surcharge by 3.5%, from 40% to 36.5%, for its Hawaii service.

Matson Terminal Handling, Transshipment Fees to Rise

Matson will raise its West Coast terminal handling charge by $50 for both westbound and eastbound containers, effective January 20, 2013.

Postal Service Sets Holiday Mailing Dates

The US Postal Services is suggesting that customers mail their international mail by Dec 10 and their mainland mail by Dec 18.
