Hawaiʻi’s Safe Travel Program is Luring Tourists Back, But Very Slowly

As state officials expected, the launch of Hawaiʻi’s Safe Travel Program on Oct. 15 has led to only a modest increase in tourism in the early stages. An average of 6,300 trans-Pacific travelers have come to Hawaiʻi per day — up from about 1,900 per day before the program started, but way down from the 25,000 per day average in October 2019.
