Maui to Amend Sign Ordinance Under ACLU Settlement

A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed by the ACLU on behalf of a Maui couple who had sought changes to the county’s sign ordinance.

The lawsuit stems from a January 21, 2013 demonstration in which members of the group Maui Peace Action joined in carrying signs as part of a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day march through downtown Wailuku.

“We march with them for the rights of every man–whether black or white, yellow or red–for every woman, for every child, for every elder,” said Kahu Hill who also reflected on tomorrow’s anniversary of the day that Hawaii’s last queen was overthrown on January 17, 1893.
