#molokai flooding

Mayor Richard Bissen will hold a community meeting at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Mitchell Pauole Community Center in Kaunakakai for Molokaʻi residents to discuss impacts of the recent kona storms and severe weather in their area.

Maui Emergency Management Agency, County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation and the American Red Cross recently moved the Molokaʻi shelter across the street to Mitchell Pau’ole Community Center, 90 Ainoa St., Kaunakakai, Molokaʻi. Also, a Temporary Evacuation Point was opened at Kilohana Recreation Center, 334 E. Kamehameha V Highway.

The bridge was the site of multiple flooding incidents during heavy rains over the past two decades. Some of the more severe flooding incidents had resulted in the isolation of east-side residents from the rest of the island.
