Wet and windy weather caused trees to fall across the road corridor in the Moloka‘i Forest Reserve, resulting in closure of the reserve until further notice.

An informational meeting is planned on Monday, June 29, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kalanianaʻole Hall in Kaunakakai to discuss a proposed fencing and management project in the Waikolu Valley and Puʻu Aliʻi Natural Area Reserve areas.

Crews from the Division of Forestry and Wildlife used heavy equipment to remove debris from the road and conduct resurfacing.

The closure extends from the Maunahui access road from the hunters’ check station to the Makakaupaia gate.

A man hiking in the Molokai Forest Reserve on Sunday afternoon, was airlifted to safety when he became lost in the mountainous terrain.
