The affected individual in this current case was exposed to the virus while traveling in a region where dengue is common and is not connected to prior cases.

Maui County is seeing an increase in the number of imported suspect mosquito-borne diseases, such as Zika, dengue and chikungunya.

Last year’s record-breaking hurricane season in Hawaii underscores the need for Maui County citizens to be better informed and better prepared.

The total count is now 101, which includes 88 Hawaiʻi residents and 13 visitors. Of the confirmed cases, 78 have been adults and 23 have been children under the age of 18.
