DLNR hosts Nā Ala Hele Virtual Open House, May 21
Nā Ala Hele is updating its program plan, originally created in 1991, and seeks community input. Forest users are invited to help guide the process by joining an online open house on Wednesday, May 21 from 5-6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Summit District of Haleakalā National Park remains closed as firefighting efforts continue along Crater Road
The Crater Road Fire remained 80% contained at 574 acres at last report, with the closure of the Summit District of Haleakalā National Park still in effect. The fire started nine days ago on July 10. Containment and acreage has not changed since Monday, July 15.
Kula Forest Reserve closes as a precaution due to Crater Road fire
As a precaution due to the Crater Road fire, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) closed the Kula Forest Reserve and all Na Ala Hele Trails in the reserve today, effective at 3 p.m., until further notice.
Kupu announces Nā Manu ʻElele steward program applications open
Part-time and full-time Nā Manu ʻElele positions are open on the islands of Hawaiʻi, Maui, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, and Kauaʻi. The deadline to apply is Oct. 27, 2023.
Hawai‘i Trail Improvement Program Gets $530,000
