There are 740 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawaiʻi today, including 72 on Maui, seven on Molokaʻi, and two on Lānaʻi. Thereʻs also 11 new COVID-19 deaths, including seven on Oʻahu, three on Hawaiʻi Island, and one on Kauaʻi.

In Maui County, the seven day average for new daily cases dropped to 102. The countyʻs test positivity rate is now 8.8%, and the statewide positivity rate is now 8.4%.

There are now 44 people hospitalized in Maui County with COVID-19, surpassing the 41 reported during the height of the delta surge in August 2021. 

Maui County’s seven day average of cases is now 61.3 cases per 100,000, surpassing the Delta peak of 57.6 per 100,000 reported on Aug. 25.

The DOH is reporting a COVID-19 count of 1,384 today, including 71 on Maui and two on Molokaʻi. The latest data represents a total of 13,966 “active” cases statewide over two week, surpassing the Delta peak of 11,500.

There were 1,511 new COVID-19 cases in Hawaiʻi today, including 1,293 on Oʻahu, and 101 in Maui County. There were also three new deaths–two on Hawaiʻi Island, and one on Kauaʻi. Statewide, there were 68 COVID-19 hospitalizations on Thursday. As of this morning, there are 5 people hospitalized with COVID-19 on Maui, including one in the ICU.

Hawaiʻi has had six consecutive days with triple digit case counts exceeding 700. There are 961 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 866 on Oʻahu and 58 on Maui.

The latest data represents a total of 5,634 “active” cases statewide over two weeks. Maui County’s seven day average of cases peaked at 57.6 per 100,000 on Aug. 25, and has been on a steady decline since the beginning of September. Today’s seven day average on Maui ticked up to 18.1 cases per 100,000.

There were 840 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Monday, including 742 on Oʻahu and 42 on Maui. Today’s seven day average on Maui ticked up to 16.5 cases per 100,000.

There were 972 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Sunday, including 877 on Oʻahu and 38 on Maui. There were two additional COVID-19 deaths today including one each on Maui and Kauaʻi. The latest data represents a total of 4,237 “active” cases statewide over two weeks. Maui County’s seven day average of cases peaked at 57.6 per 100,000 on Aug. 25, and has been on a steady decline since the beginning of September. Today’s seven day average on Maui is 12.6 cases per 100,000.

There were 707 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Saturday, including 622 on Oʻahu. Statewide, there were 41 people hospitalized with COVID-19 on Friday, including one on Maui.

“Omicron appears to be more easily transmitted, and it appears right now that it is less virulent. But don’t be fooled into thinking it won’t affect our hospitals and our families,” said Dr. Char.

The state Department of Health is reporting a spike in COVID-19 cases on Oʻahu. A press briefing will be held later this morning to discuss details.

Today’s COVID-19 case count includes about 130 cases not previously reported because a testing provider experienced an interruption with the electronic laboratory reporting system. The backlogged cases are from specimens analyzed between Nov. 28 and Dec. 13, 2021.

Of today’s 189 cases, there were 159 cases identified as confirmed, and +30 probable cases were added to the count.  The confirmed cases included: 115 on O‘ahu (+19 probable); eight on Hawai‘i Island (+2 probable); 10 on Maui (+7 probable); 15 on Kaua‘i; seven on Moloka‘i; and four Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state (+2 probable).

The Hawai‘i Department of Health reports two additional confirmed Omicron variant COVID-19 cases and several possible points of exposure in Hawai‘i. Health officials in Hawai‘i are urging attendees of a New York Anime Convention and attendees of Christ Embassy Hawai‘i events to get tested for COVID-19.

State Epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Kemble said the adult individual under the age of 65 was not vaccinated and had been previously infected SARS-CoV-2 over a year ago. She said the individual had not traveled, and the transmission is believed to be community spread.
