The Pacific Cancer Institute of Maui has launched a new method of treatment — the first in the state this month — to treat tumors that are moving targets.

Daryl Lynn Tavares, 46, of Kihei, was the first patient to be treated on the TrueBeam STx from Varian Medical Systems. Tavares, a patient of Dr. Diane Tsai, received approximately seven rounds of radiation at the Maui cancer center when her treatment for breast cancer was switched to the new machine.
