Fire Burns Two Acres Brush at Pa‘uwela Lighthouse

Firefighters responded to a brush fire that burned an estimated 2 acres of brush in former pineapple fields near the Paʻuwela Lighthouse in Haʻikū on Wednesday.

The incident was reported shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and involved an area of brush, trash and an abandoned truck, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Kiln Sparks Fire at Pauwela Cannery

The kiln was being used inappropriately to dry sections of bamboo stalks, and was left unattended.
