Bill advances to allow tenants with liability insurance to keep pets in rental units

In a move that could be a step toward addressing Maui’s chronic overpopulation of dogs and cats, a bill making its way through the state Senate would prohibit landlords from using rental agreements to forbid pets in tenants’ homes, if they obtain liability insurance to cover pet damages.

Maui Humane Society Celebrates Record Breaking 800 Spay/Neuter Surgeries in Wake of Pandemic Disruption

The onset of COVID required MHS to temporarily stop performing elective surgeries like spay and neuter for public animals. The ten week hiatus meant that more kittens were born, adding to Maui’s community cat overpopulation. Since reopening in July, Vet staff have worked to make up for the disruption in service.

Spay and Neuter Cat Clinic by Maui Humane Society, Feb. 9-10, 12-13

The objective for the four-day clinic is to sterilize 150 cats per day, for a total of 600 sterilizations.

1,000 Dogs and Cats Spayed and Neutered on Maui in Nine Days

More than 1,050 dogs and cats were spayed and neutered for free at the inaugural M*A*S*H clinics hosted by the Maui Humane Society in June.
