HPU launches inaugural Marine Debris Circularity Academy in summer 2025
Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Center for Marine Debris Research is set to host its inaugural in-person Marine Debris Circularity Academy this summer on Oʻahu. The series of short courses is designed to promote sustainable solutions to the global plastic pollution crisis, with a focus on creating a “circular economy for plastics” in Hawai‘i and beyond.
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation to receive funding for plastic recycling research
HDOT plans to combine this award with other funding sources to establish a plastic recycling research facility, the first of its kind in Hawaiʻi, with a total cost anticipated to be around $6 million. The facility is anticipated to be up and running within two years and will allow the conversion of waste plastic into new products that can be used in transportation infrastructure.
