Infrastructure repairs and maintenance for Maui State Forest Reserves scheduled in April
Sites in Upcountry Maui will close for the month of April to allow for trail repairs and fuel mitigation work. The DLNR Divisions of Forestry and Wildlife and State Parks will close the Kula State Forest Reserve, Waipoli Access Road, Kahikinui Forest Reserve – Papaʻanui Tract, and Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area from Tuesday, April 1, 2025 through Wednesday, April 30, 2025 to allow for work to be completed.
Kula Forest Storm Assessment Shows Hundreds of Trees Flattened in Storm
John Niezman, a DOFAW invasive species technician said, “During my time with DOFAW, along Polipoli Spring Road, this is the worst damage I’ve seen with so many trees down and a lot of culverts blocked.”
Hazardous Conditions Prompt Closure of Maui Recreation Area & Two Forest Reserves
Due to hazardous conditions and impassable roads and trails caused by this week’s heavy rains and strong winds, DLNR has closed the Kula State Forest Reserve, Kahikinui State Forest Reserve – Papa’anui Tract, and Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area.
