Police Investigate Discovery of Unresponsive Male at Polihua Beach, Lāna‘i
A group of fishermen stated they had pulled an unresponsive male from the water. Police say no life-saving measures were performed as officers determined the male to be deceased.

Oct. 24, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 90 New Cases (58 O‘ahu, 16 Hawai‘i Island, 16 in Maui County); 3 Deaths
There were 90 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 58 on the island of O‘ahu, 16 on Hawai‘i Island and 16 new cases in Maui County.   The Maui cases include one new case in Lahaina and at least 14 new cases on Lāna‘i. Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 death toll increased by three to 212, with three new deaths reported on the island of O‘ahu.

EPA Requires Lanai Oil Co. To Protect Hawaiian Waterways from Oil Spills in Proposed Settlement
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced a proposed settlement with Lanai Oil Company, Inc. for Clean Water Act violations at its facility on Lanaʻi Island. Under the agreement, Lanai Oil is required to pay a penalty of $71,166.

Permanent Checkpoints for Hāna, Maui; Running and Walking on Beach is NOT Permitted
Two Permanent checkpoints to make sure only residents are traveling to Hāna: (1) after Twin Falls and (2) past Kēōkea. This will start on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Governor’s office and Attorney General clarified today that people are NOT allowed to walk and run on the beach for exercise. This is stricter than Maui County’s rules.
