Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating an ongoing barricaded subject incident in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision in lower Puna.

When the suspect emerged from the home more than seven hours later, a confrontation ensued, authorities said.

Puna patrol officers responded when reports surfaced of a man allegedly threatening neighbors with a machete. After hours of negotiation with the Police Department’s Special Response Team, police say the suspect emerged from the house and a confrontation ensued.
