Drought Report: 90.65% of State Abnormally Dry or Drier
The majority of the island of Maui was experiencing moderate drought conditions and severe drought conditions were marked from Kīhei to Wailea-Mākena.
2.4 Inches of Rain Overnight in Parts of Maui County
Lānaʻi and Kahoʻolawe had the greatest rainfall rates in Maui County with more than 2.4 inches of rain recorded at both locations over the time frame as a line of heavy rain and thunderstorms prompted a special weather statement on Monday night.
Maui Flood WARNING Until 2:45 a.m. Friday 3/9/12
The National Weather Service has extended a Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui until 2:45 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012. At 11:36 p.m., radar showed heavy rain continuing to fall from thunderstorms near Keanae. The area of heavy rain was located about 18 miles east of Kahului and was nearly stationary. Other locations in the Warning include Pauwela, Paia, Makawao, Haliimaile and Haiku.
