Baldwin High School wins 30th Annual Honolulu Festival Maui Mikoshi Contest
The Honolulu Festival Foundation announced Baldwin High School as the winner of the Maui Mikoshi design contest at the 30th Annual Honolulu Festival. The winning mikoshi design was unveiled on Saturday, March 14, at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
UH engineering team discovers ancient Hawaiian calendar system at historic heiau
New research has uncovered evidence that an ancient Hawaiian heiau (place of worship, shrine) served as a sophisticated seasonal calendar and more, demonstrating the advanced scientific knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture. The research, published in Waka Kuaka, the journal of The Polynesian Society, examined Hapaialiʻi Heiau near Kahaluʻu Beach Park on Hawaiʻi Island.
