#silversword heritage award

Maui High School is naming its new state-of-the-art building as the Harrison and Helen Miyahira STEM Center in recognition of the couple’s contributions to the school and community. The dedication ceremony will take place on Friday, Aug. 16, at 11:30 a.m. on the school campus at 660 Lono Ave. in Kahului.

A Hollywood director, Maui County Board of Supervisor and state House member, an influential labor and community leader, a couple who support students and their college aspirations, and a longtime athletic director are members of the 2023 Class of the Maui High School Hall of Honor. Honorees include: Vernon Patao – Class of 1988; Amos Lonokailua -Hewett- Class of 1989; Troy Keoni Orsono – Class of 2004; Randy Yamanuha – Retired Maui High School Principal; and Eugene Kennedy, Retired MHS teacher, registrar, coach.
