Hilo man who led online extremist group sentenced to 10 years for child pornography
A Hilo man who co-founded and led an online extremist group has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Hawaiʻi announced.

The United States Attorney’s Office released a statement today regarding the death of defendant Michael J. Miske, the Hawaiʻi crime boss who was convicted by a federal jury of 13 counts of criminal conduct on July 18, 2024. On Dec. 1, 2024, the Federal Bureau of Prisons announced that he was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased on Dec. 1, 2024.

In August 2022, the District of Hawaiʻi recovered $75,000 from the former Majority Leader of the State of Hawaii Senate, Jamie Kalani English, in partial payment of the $100,000 fine imposed for honest services wire fraud, according to the release.
