State releases performance report: Maui has largest vacation rental supply; average daily rate is up
In April 2024, Maui County had the largest vacation rental supply at 246,500 available unit nights (+4.7% vs. 2023, -4.4% vs. 2019), and Maui vacation rental unit supply continued to be impacted by the Aug. 8 wildfire. The data was included in the state Department of Business Economic Development and Tourism’s Hawaiʻi Vacation Rental Performance Report.
Maui County vacation rentals achieve 64.2% occupancy in February
Data from Maui County shows that there were more vacation rental unit nights available in February 2024 compared to both February 2023 and February 2019 (before the pandemic). Despite an increase in available units, the percentage of those units being occupied in February 2024 was still lower than in both February 2023 and February 2019.
Maui vacation rental supply no longer highest in the state, occupancy down from 2023
While a decrease was recorded in month-over-month data, Maui County vacation rental supply realized gains this January compared to January 2023.
Maui vacation rental supply and unit demand up from 2022, but down from pre-pandemic
While gains were realized in month-over-month data, Maui’s vacation rental supply, unit demand and occupancy in February remained down double-digits from pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
Maui County’s Vacation Rental Occupancy Increases to 75% for May
In May 2021, Maui County had the largest vacation rental supply of all four counties in Hawaiʻi with 234,400 available unit nights, with an occupancy rate of 75%, according to the latest Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority Report on vacation rental performance.
