Two guides were arrested for allegedly leading illegal lava viewing tours into the Wao Kele O Puna Forest and Kahaualea Natural Area Reserves.

The Wao Kele o Puna Forest Reserve on Hawaiʻi Island was closed on Friday night due to the danger posed by the June 27 lava flow. Crews are also building escape roads in Puna as lava from the Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō vent approaches the northwest corner of Kaʻohe Homesteads.
