BLNR successful in its appeal in East Maui water case

The Hawaiʻi Board of Land and Natural Resources, as represented by the Department of the Attorney General, prevailed on appeal in a case regarding the continuation of revocable permits for the diversion of water from streams in East Maui to Central and Upcountry Maui.

Court Cuts A&B’s Watertake from East Maui While Contested Case Hearing is Underway

The Environmental Court has temporarily limited the amount of water that Alexander & Baldwin and East Maui Irrigation can take from East Maui to an average of about 25 million gallons of water per day, according to stream advocates. The court authorized the reduced diversion while a contested case hearing is conducted.

A&B Seeks Renewal of Water Permit for East Maui Diversions

Alexander & Baldwin goes before the state Land Board today to seek the renewal of a permit for the continued diversion of water on Maui in 2018.

They are walking the halls of the Senate in opposition to House Bill 2501, and are seeking the restoration of long-diverted stream flows in the area.
