MOTORCYCLIST ON MAUI SUFFERS FATAL INJURIES

A Makawao man suffered fatal injuries in a motorcycle crash on a remote section of road in Ulupalakua earlier this week.

Maui Police identified the man as 36-year-old Harrison Higa.

According to police reports, Higa was operating an off-road Kawasaki motorcycle on the Piilani Highway when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the roadway and down an embankment.  The accident was reported at 6 p.m. on Monday March 30, 2009, near mile marker 16 in Ulupalakua.

Higa was transported to medical facilities on Maui and then to Oahu.  He died the following day of injuries received in the crash.

It is undetermined at this time if the victim was using any personal protective equipment.

The accident was Maui County’s 7th traffic fatality this year.
