Maui Scientist Explores the Sensual Side of Nature
by Katie McMillan
Dr. Gary Greenberg, a Maui-based artist, scientist, and inventor has just released his latest art photography book titled Florotica: Revealing the Sensuality of the Micro World.
In Florotica, Dr. Greenberg, uses his patented 3D microscopes to explore ordinary objects, such as flowers, grains of sand, and food. When magnified hundreds of times, these objects take on a new reality, revealing hidden sensual dimensions.
Dr. Greenberg masterfully illuminates how ordinary objects are truly extraordinary when seen closely. His ability to document the astonishing detail of the floral world under the microscope provides the viewer with a series of images never before seen with the naked eye.
Dr. Greenberg currently directs the Microscopy & Microanalysis Laboratory at the Advanced Technology Research Center in Pukalani, a branch of the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy. He is the inventor of the Edge 3D, a high definition 3D microscope and has been issued eighteen US patents on microscopes and optics. He is also a featured artist at the Science Museum of Minnesota with his exhibit, “Exploring the Microscopic World of Sand.”
