West Maui Disaster Preparedness Event, May 4

County authorities will be among those presenting information at an upcoming Disaster Preparedness meeting for West Maui residents.  Emergency Management Officer Anna Foust with Maui County Civil Defense, Maui Fire Chief Jeff Murray, and Maui Ocean Safety and Rescue Officer Archie Kalepa are among the presenters attending the meeting.

Participants will learn practical survival techniques that are aimed at preparing families for emergency events.

Those in attendance will also hear stories about kupuna and friends who lived through previous disasters in the islands including impacts of the 1946 tsunami on Lahaina town, surviving on Kauai during and after Hurricane Iniki, and impacts of the 1980 New Year storm.

The event is presented by Casco Wealth Management LLC and will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4th at the Lahaina Civic Center.

A separate West Maui Safety Fair, hosted by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise Chapter will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Lahaina Cannery Mall.
