Governor’s Maui Visit to Include Farmers Market & Kupuna Luncheon

Governor Neil Abercrombie will make several stops on Maui later this week with public appearances planned on Friday and Saturday.
Maui Chamber of Commerce 2011 Governor’s Luncheon & Board Installation
On Friday, July 29, the Governor will provide remarks at the Maui Chamber of Commerce’s 2011 Governor’s Luncheon & Board Installation. The event takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Kahili Golf Course in Waikapu.
Kihei Lipoa Street Farmers Market one-year Anniversary
Then at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, the Governor is expected to present a proclamation at the Kihei Lipoa Street Farmers Market, as part of the event’s one-year anniversary celebration. The farmers market is held every Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. and features locally grown produce, certified organic foods, jams and jellies, crafts, art, and health services from Maui practitioners.
As part of the Farmers Market festivities this weekend, Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa will host the latest edition of County on Your Corner from 8 to 10 a.m.
Maui Economic Opportunity Remarks
Also on Saturday, the Governor will provide remarks at the 39th Annual Kupuna Aloha Luncheon hosted by Maui Economic Opportunity Inc. This year’s event takes place at the Grand Wailea Resort. The annual gathering gives seniors a chance to interact with friends in gathering that includes members of some 50 senior groups that fall under the MEO umbrella.
Kihei Elementary School Garden Visit
Governor Abercrombie will wrap up his Maui stay with a visit to the Kihei Elementary School Garden. The Meet and Greet event will run from noon to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
