Salaveria Named Deputy Director Of State Finance

Governor Neil Abercrombie today announced the appointment of Luis P. Salaveria as Deputy Director of the state Department of Budget & Finance.

Salaveria’s appointment takes effect on September 1.  He replaces Dean Hirata, who resigned on July 30, 2011, and will serve as the Deputy under Director Kalbert Young, of Maui.

Salaveria has 20 years of experience in financial and accounting management.  From 2001 to 2011, he served as Finance Manager of Kaiser Permanente Hawai’i.

Prior to that, he served for four years as Chief Budget Analyst for the Hawai’i State Department of Defense. His responsibilities included the development of budgets for the Hawai’i Air and Army National Guard, State Civil Defense and Office of Veterans Services.

Salaveria earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.

“Luis’s experience and background will be of benefit to both our finance operations as well as for our attached agencies. I look forward to working with Luis as we continue to transform the way government does business,” said Young.
