Molokai Brushfire Burns 5 Acres in Hoolehua

A brush fire on Monday morning (October 10, 2011) burned an estimated 5 acres in the agricultural park area of Hoolehua.

The fire was reported at 11:34 a.m. on Hua’ai Road off of the Maunaloa Highway, and was contained by 12:50 p.m.

At around 1:30 this afternoon, fire officials said the blaze was 100% contained and crews remained on scene for mop-up operations.

The firefighting operations forced the closure of Hua’ai road for about two hours.

Responding to the scene were crews from Fire station 11, two county tankers, one county dozer, crews from public works, and Maui police.

No structures were threatened and there were no injuries reported.  The cause of the fire is undetermined.
