The next edition of Maui’s Get the Drift and Bag It cleanup campaign heads to the Northshore Greenway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday October 16, 2011.

The effort is coordinated by the Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition of Maui (N-PAC Maui) and the Community Work Day program.

The Northshore Greenway pedestrian/bike path is a seven-mile route that is designed to eventually run from Paia to Kahului, makai of the Hana Highway and around Kahului Airport.

Most of the greenway is complete, with the exception of Phase 3 that extends from Baldwin Park to Sprecklesville.

“Once completed the Northshore Greenway will improve the quality of Maui County residents by giving residents a healthy alternative to the automobile environment,” said NPAC Coordinator Sandy McGuiness.

Leaders in the effort to build the bikeway will be available to answer questions about the project at the clean up.

Volunteers are asked to meet at Baldwin Beach Park in Paia.  All cleanup supplies will be provided for volunteers. Water and lunch will be supplied and volunteers are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles and work gloves. Volunteers may also bring their own reusable bags or buckets for litter pickups.
